Collecapretta ‘Il Rossodatavola’ 2020

$34.00

‘Il Rosso da Tavola’ or table wine, is made from 100% Sangiovese macerated for 6 to 8 days on the skins, with elevage in a mixture of cement, stainless steel and fiberglass. To a point the Collecapretta wines are absolutely exceptional, and this is not the last time you will see them on our shelves (though they might not be there for long).

The Mattioli family has been in the same small town in Umbria that the Romans named Collecapretta, or ‘Hill of Goats,’ since the 1100’s. In the scope of American history and winemaking that’s a tenure that’s quite difficult to put into context. Just outside of the town of Spoleto in Terzo la Pieve, they have farmed their quaint 4ha of indigenous old vines for generations. The Mattioli’s land is in the southern part of Umbria, 500 meters above sea level in the foothills of the Apennines, composed in part by iron rich clay and travertine limestone. Production here is quite small, but what they lack in size they assuredly make up for in quality.
